About this card

The story on this card
1964 Topps #492 is a Rookie Stars card pairing Beauchamp with Mike White under the Houston Colt .45's banner, part of the set's sixth print series. That February, Houston had traded outfielder Carl Warwick to St. Louis to acquire Beauchamp along with pitcher Chuck Taylor. He made the Colt .45's out of spring training and got his first extended big-league look in left field, but a midseason slump sent him down to Oklahoma City before a September recall; he finished the year hitting .164 in 23 games. Oklahoma-born first baseman and outfielder who bounced between five organizations across a ten-year career, then spent decades coaching for the Atlanta Braves after his playing days ended.
White's card catches him after his only full major league season, when he manned center field for the Colt .45s for most of 1964 and batted .271 with 76 hits in 89 games. Card #492 is a multi-player Rookie Stars issue from Topps' sixth series that pairs White with fellow Colt .45s prospect Jim Beauchamp, a common format Topps used to introduce several young players from the same club on one card. It is a recognized rookie card for White. An outfielder for the Colt .45s and Astros who fought back from a career-threatening knee injury to reach the majors, and the son of big league outfielder Jo-Jo White.
