The story on this card
Card #581 is a second straight seventh-series high number for Gonzalez, high-number like the rest of that run, and it pairs him with Yankees outfield prospect Archie Moore on another Rookie Stars panel; hobby catalogues credit the card as Moore's rookie card. The season was Gonzalez's busiest with the pennant-winning Yankees: 80 games spread across 31 at first base, 15 in right field, nine at third, six at second and five in left, plus 11 pinch-hit and 18 pinch-run appearances, and a .277/.331/.366 line. "The more places I play, the more chances I get to play," he reasoned. He appeared once in the World Series, entering Game Five at third base in the eighth inning and popping out against Bob Gibson as St. Louis took the Series in seven. Dominican infielder who broke in as the first Dominican-born Yankee in 1963 and finished with Cleveland in 1967 - a .244 hitter over five big-league seasons, a Licey institution at home, and later one of the first Dominicans to manage in the U.S. minors.
Moore debuted with the Yankees on April 20, 1964, playing 31 games that rookie season as an outfielder and first baseman while batting .174. This card is part of print series 7, a high number, and is recognized as a rookie card for Moore. It is a multi-player Rookie Stars card shared with fellow Yankees farmhand Pedro Gonzalez, pairing the two prospects under the same New York Yankees banner. Left-handed New York Yankees outfielder and first baseman who broke in during 1964 after signing with the club as an amateur free agent in 1963.
