1965 Topps #349 Larry Miller

About Larry Miller
1965 Topps #349 pictures Miller with the New York Mets, part of the set's fourth print series; it is a recognized rookie card. That October the Dodgers had traded him to the Mets for outfielder Dick Smith, and in his first season in New York he worked almost entirely out of the bullpen, making 28 appearances against only 5 starts, a sharp change from the rotation spot he held as a Dodgers rookie the year before.
Larry Don Miller was a left-handed pitcher from Topeka, Kansas who reached the majors with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets across three seasons, 1964 to 1966. He signed with the Dodgers in 1959 and spent three years in the farm system before missing the 1962 and 1963 seasons for United States Army service. He earned a recall in June 1964 after an 8-0 stretch with a 1.68 ERA for Albuquerque in the Double-A Texas League, then took a rotation spot as a Dodgers rookie, going 4-8 with a 4.18 ERA over 16 appearances, 14 of them starts. His lone big-league complete game came on August 2, 1964, a 6-1 win over the first-place Philadelphia Phillies. That October the Dodgers traded him to the Mets for outfielder Dick Smith, and he closed his career with two seasons in New York, working mostly in relief before his final game on September 17, 1966. He pitched three more years at Triple-A before retiring at 32. He later earned a master's degree in engineering at Arizona State University and spent three decades as a construction-industry management consultant near Phoenix.
