The story on this card
Hinsley's 1965 Topps card is #449, another Mets Rookie Stars card, this time shared with Gary Kroll and printed with a horizontal front. It comes from the set's sixth print series. He did not pitch in the majors in 1965, so the card sits between his 1964 nine-game debut and the two relief outings he made for the Mets in 1967. Right-handed pitcher from Hugo, Oklahoma, who debuted with the Mets in 1964 at age 19 as a Rule 5 pick and made a brief return in 1967, finishing with a 7.08 ERA over 20.1 innings.
Kroll's 1965 Topps card lands during his lone full major-league season, pitching for the Mets. He worked 32 games including 11 starts, going 6-6 with his only career complete game (a 7-1 win over San Francisco) and his only career save. Card #449 is a multi-player Rookie Stars issue from print series six, pairing Kroll with fellow Mets pitching prospect Jerry Hinsley; it is Kroll's rookie card. A 6-foot-6 flamethrower who once fired 20 straight hitless innings in the minors, Kroll pitched for four big-league clubs between 1964 and 1969, his best year a 6-6 season with the 1965 Mets.
