About Ron Locke

By 1965 Topps issued Locke his own card, number 511, again a high number from print series seven. The card follows his lone big league season with the Mets, in which he went 1-2 with a 3.48 ERA across 25 appearances, including three starts, before his final major league game that October.

Ronald Thomas Locke was a left-handed pitcher born April 4, 1942, in Wakefield, Rhode Island. Standing five foot eleven and listed at 168 pounds, he threw left-handed but batted right. Locke reached the majors with the New York Mets, making his debut on April 23, 1964, and worked exclusively out of the Mets pitching staff that season, appearing in 25 games with three starts. Over 41.1 innings he struck out 17 batters, posted a 1-2 record, and finished with a 3.48 earned run average, showing modest control and a willingness to work in relief as well as spot-start roles. His final major league appearance came on October 4, 1964, closing out a single-season big league career. Locke also saw limited plate appearances that year, going hitless in five at-bats. He was never selected to an All-Star team, won no major awards, and made no postseason appearances during his brief run in the National League.
