About Bob Sadowski

Traded to the Boston Red Sox for his final major-league season, Sadowski pitched through arm miseries in 1966, working just 33.1 innings over 11 games and 5 starts. His lone Red Sox win came June 1, combining with Jose Santiago on a three-hit shutout of the Washington Senators at Fenway Park -- his last big-league victory. This 1966 Topps #523, a high number from the set's seventh print series, is his final Topps card and shows him with Boston.

Robert Sadowski was a right-handed pitcher from Pittsburgh who reached the majors with the Milwaukee Braves in 1963 after signing with the St. Louis Cardinals organization in 1958 and coming to Milwaukee in a trade that sent Lew Burdette to St. Louis. He split his four big-league seasons, 1963 to 1966, between starting and relieving for the Braves and, in his final year, the Boston Red Sox. His busiest season came in 1964, when he set career highs in wins, games, starts, saves and innings pitched. He also has the distinction of starting and winning the Braves' final home opener in Milwaukee, in April 1965. Arm trouble limited him in 1966, his last season, though he closed his career with a win in a combined three-hit shutout at Fenway Park. He finished with a 20-27 record, a 3.87 ERA and 257 strikeouts across 115 games.

Where SGC registers no separate row for a variation state, its slabs of that card are listed under the base state.
