A small trophy on the card marks his selection to Topps' 1965 All-Star Rookie team.

About Jose Cardenal
Cardenal took over as the Angels' regular outfielder in 1966, appearing in a career-high 154 games, batting .276 with 16 home runs and 24 stolen bases as veteran outfielder Jimmy Piersall mentored him through a difficult early stretch. His 1966 Topps #505, from the set's sixth series, carries a small trophy noting his selection to Topps' 1965 All-Star Rookie team.
Jose Cardenal was a Cuban-born outfielder who played eighteen major league seasons from 1963 to 1980 for nine teams, most memorably the Chicago Cubs, where he became a fan favorite for his hitting, speed and strong throwing arm. Born in Matanzas, Cuba, he grew up playing ball with his second cousin Bert Campaneris before signing with the San Francisco Giants and working his way up through the minors. Traded to the California Angels, then Cleveland, St. Louis and Milwaukee, Cardenal blossomed into a full-time regular known for stolen bases and gap power, twice leading Cleveland in steals and setting a career high in Chicago with a .317 average in 1975. He finished his career a .275 hitter with 138 home runs, 775 RBI and 329 stolen bases across 2,017 games, closing out his playing days with a World Series appearance for the Kansas City Royals in 1980. He went on to coach for several major league organizations, including three World Series runs as first base coach for the New York Yankees.
