The story on this card
Card 63 in the 1967 Topps set pairs Lou Brock and Curt Flood as a two-man Cardinals combination card, part of the set's first print series. Both men represent St. Louis on the card, reflecting the outfield tandem that powered the club to the 1967 National League pennant. Brock came off a 1966 season leading the NL in stolen bases, while Flood was in the midst of a run of seven straight Gold Gloves and an NL-record 226-game errorless streak in center field. Together they anchored an outfield that helped St. Louis beat Boston in the 1967 World Series, with Flood advancing Brock into scoring position in Game 1 and driving him in during Game 3.
Lou Brock came to St. Louis in the 1964 Broglio trade and turned into the game's great base thief, setting single-season and career stolen-base records, winning two World Series, and reaching 3,000 hits before his 1985 Hall of Fame election. Curt Flood was the Cardinals' Gold Glove center fielder of the 1960s, a three-time All-Star nicknamed Rembrandt for the portraits he painted, whose refusal to accept a 1969 trade became a Supreme Court challenge to baseball's reserve clause.
