The story on this card

Bill Connors' 1967 Topps card is number 272, a Chicago Cubs Rookie Stars subset card he shares with fellow pitcher Dave Dowling, part of the set's third print series. It is a recognized rookie card. Connors spent 1966 excelling in the Pacific Coast League before a brief call-up to Chicago, and by the time this card reached shelves his contract had been purchased by the New York Mets, where he closed out his final two big league seasons. A Schenectady native and 1954 Little League World Series champion who pitched briefly for the Cubs and Mets before a long second career as a pitching coach and Yankees front-office executive.

Dowling's 1967 Topps card is card 272, a Rookie Stars issue in the set's third series. It is Bill Connors' rookie card, shared with Dowling, both pictured as Cubs; Dowling had already appeared on 1965 Topps #116. It follows his final major-league appearance, a complete-game 7-2 win over the Reds at Wrigley Field on September 22, 1966, that closed out a career line of 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA before a shoulder injury ended his playing days. A left-handed pitcher out of Chehalis, Washington who reached the majors in just two games, with St. Louis in 1964 and the Cubs in 1966, before a shoulder injury ended his career.
