The story on this card
Nye's rookie season was his best: 13-10 with a 3.20 ERA over 35 games for the Cubs, earning a spot on the Topps All-Star Rookie Team and the Chicago BBWAA chapter's Rookie of the Year award. His 1967 Topps card, #608, is a high-number Rookie Stars issue shared with fellow Cubs left-hander John Upham, and is recognized as Nye's rookie card. Rich Nye, a left-handed Cubs pitcher of the late 1960s, later left the mound for veterinary medicine, co-founding one of the nation's first all-exotic-animal veterinary hospitals after retiring from baseball with arm trouble.
Upham made the Cubs out of spring training in 1967 after impressing manager Leo Durocher, earning a call-up that April when he replaced an injured Bob Hendley. He appeared in five games as a relief pitcher and pinch hit in three others, going 2-for-3 at the plate against an 0-1 mark on the mound. His 1967 Topps card, #608, is a double-printed high number from print series 7 and a recognized rookie card, part of a multi-player Rookie Stars subset shared with fellow Cubs pitcher Rich Nye. A Windsor, Ontario native who converted from Phillies farmhand outfielder to Cubs relief pitcher, Upham reached the majors in 1967 and hit .308 in a brief two-season career.

Yes - #608 is a rookie card for every player pictured on it: Rich Nye and John Upham.
Is 1967 Topps #608 a scarce card?
It is a high number card from the seventh and last print series, #534-609 - the scarce end of the set, holding both Hall of Fame rookies (Carew #569, Seaver #581). Twenty-two of the 76 are accepted double prints, so scarcity varies card by card inside the run. It is also a double print card (26 cards: #1, #30, #100, the #531 checklist and 22 high numbers). Cards printed twice on the sheet, so more plentiful than their neighbours: #1 The Champs, #30 Al Kaline, #100 Frank Robinson, the #531 seventh-series checklist, and 22 of the 76 high numbers (#534, 537, 539, 542, 547, 548, 550, 551, 554, 556, 559, 562, 564, 566, 569, 582, 588, 589, 596, 599, 601, 608), Carew #569 included. A high number that is also a double print is easier than its series suggests.
How many cards are in the 1967 Topps Baseball set?
609 cards, tracked as 624 collectible states. Numbers run from 1 to 609 without a gap - no number was skipped and none was used twice - and 15 cards carry catalogued print variations that the master set counts separately.
