About George Scott

Card #75 comes from Topps' first 1967 series and shows Scott with the Red Sox. That year he won his first Gold Glove and helped Boston capture the pennant, batting .303, one of only two .300 seasons of his career, with 19 home runs and 82 RBIs before playing in the World Series against St. Louis. The card also carries a Topps All-Star Rookie trophy, honoring his selection to the 1966 all-rookie team.

George Charles Scott Jr., nicknamed "Boomer," played first base for 14 major-league seasons from 1966 to 1979 with the Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, Kansas City Royals and New York Yankees. Born in Greenville, Mississippi, he picked cotton as a boy before starring in three sports at Coleman High School and signing with the Red Sox in 1962. A three-time All-Star (1966, 1975, 1977), Scott won eight Gold Gloves at first base and in 1975 with the Brewers tied for the American League home run lead while leading the league outright in RBIs. He helped Boston reach the 1967 World Series against St. Louis, and over his career batted .268 with 271 home runs and 1,051 RBIs. After retiring as a player he managed in the Mexican and independent leagues into the 2000s. He died in his hometown of Greenville in 2013 and is enshrined in the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame.
