About Jim Barbieri

Card #76 in the 1967 Topps set, part of the first print series, shows Barbieri with the Los Angeles Dodgers and stands as his rookie card. The back reports his 1966 rookie season, when he batted .280 in 39 games after a July call-up from Triple-A Spokane and appeared in that fall's World Series against Baltimore. Barbieri spent the 1967 season itself back with Spokane in the Pacific Coast League.

James Patrick Barbieri, born September 15, 1941 in Schenectady, New York, was a 5-foot-7 outfielder who signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1960. He captained Schenectady's 1954 Little League World Series champions and threw out the ceremonial first pitch of that year's World Series. After six minor-league seasons, Barbieri reached the majors in July 1966, batting .280 in 39 games as a Dodgers outfielder during their National League pennant run. He appeared in the 1966 World Series against the Baltimore Orioles, striking out as a pinch hitter in Game One. Known in clubhouses as Mighty Mouse for his small stature, he returned to Triple-A Spokane for three more seasons before playing in Japan for the Chunichi Dragons in 1970, his final professional season. He settled in Spokane, Washington, and was inducted into the Capital District Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011.
