1967 Topps #67 Ken Berry

About Ken Berry
1967 Topps #67, issued in the set's first print series, arrives on the heels of a .271 average the year before, his best to that point, and steady center-field defense that made him a fixture in the White Sox lineup. He went on to earn his only All-Star selection in 1967 as the White Sox battled the Red Sox, Tigers and Twins deep into the pennant race.
Allen Kent Berry broke in with the Chicago White Sox as a 21-year-old center fielder in September 1962 and spent parts of nine seasons with the club as one of the American League's steadiest defensive outfielders. A right-handed hitter out of Kansas City, Missouri, he earned his lone All-Star selection in 1967 as the White Sox chased the pennant into the season's final days, and he backed that up with Gold Glove awards in 1970 and 1972. Traded to the California Angels after the 1970 season, Berry kept his glove sharp into his thirties, then closed his career with brief stops in Milwaukee and Cleveland. Over fourteen big-league seasons he hit .255 with 1,053 hits and a .989 fielding percentage, leading American League outfielders in fielding percentage three times. He was inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. He is not a National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee.
