About this card

The seven checklist cards (#67, 107, 192, 278, 356, 454, 518) each carry a player portrait in a circle beside the series title - Jim Kaat, Juan Marichal, Carl Yastrzemski, Orlando Cepeda, Ken Holtzman, Frank Robinson and Clete Boyer in order. Six of the seven exist in two states; #67 is the only checklist without a variation.

The story on this card

Card 67 is the first-series checklist for 1968 Topps, fronted by Minnesota Twins left-hander Jim Kaat. Kaat came off a 1967 season in which he went 16-13 with a 3.04 ERA for the Twins, part of a record Gold Glove run at his position that ran from 1962 through 1977. The card lists the numbers in the opening series, a tool meant to be checked off by hand as a set was assembled, so sharp-cornered copies free of pencil or pen marks are harder to find than most other cards in the run and carry a real premium over checked or played examples. Kaat's picture on the front makes the card a notable crossover piece for collectors chasing his long Gold Glove streak as well as those building the 1968 Topps set series by series.
