1969 Topps #621 Bill Voss

About Bill Voss
Traded to the Angels in January 1969, Voss won the starting right-field job after hitting .477 in spring training and started the club's home opener. He finished the season with career highs in games and at-bats, batting .261 with 40 RBIs while committing only one outfield error all year. This 1969 Topps #621 card, a high number from the seventh series, shows him with the Angels.
William Edward Voss, an outfielder from Glendale, California, spent eight major-league seasons with the Chicago White Sox, California Angels, Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals. A left-handed hitter, he graduated from Newport Harbor High School, played at Orange Coast College and Long Beach State, and signed with Detroit before the White Sox claimed him in the first-year draft. He made his debut on September 14, 1965, pinch-running for Smoky Burgess, and got his first hit off Denny McLain a week later. Injuries shaped much of his career, including a fractured jaw from a Pete Richert pitch in 1968 and a broken wrist in 1970. His best season came in 1969 with the Angels, when he hit .261 in 133 games and drove in 40 runs. He finished his career in 1972 after brief stints with three clubs.
