1969 Topps #607 Dick Bosman

About Dick Bosman
Under new manager Ted Williams, Bosman moved into the rotation for good in mid-1969 and caught fire, going 10-3 with a 2.10 ERA over his final 20 starts to finish 14-5 with a league-leading 2.19 ERA as the Senators posted their first winning season in franchise history. This card is 1969 Topps #607 with the Washington Senators, a high number from the set's seventh print series.
Richard Allen Bosman was a right-handed pitcher who spent eight seasons with the Washington Senators and Texas Rangers before finishing his career with Cleveland and Oakland. Signed by Pittsburgh in 1963, he was later drafted by the Senators and debuted in the majors on June 1, 1966. Bosman broke through in 1969 under new manager Ted Williams, going 14-5 and leading the American League with a 2.19 ERA as Washington posted its first winning season in franchise history. He won a career-high 16 games in 1970 and started both the final game for the Senators and the first game for the Rangers after the 1972 move to Texas. On July 19, 1974, pitching for Cleveland, he no-hit the defending World Series champion Oakland Athletics, missing a perfect game only because of his own fielding error. He closed his playing days with Oakland in 1975-76, then spent decades as a respected pitching coach for the White Sox, Orioles, Rangers and Rays organizations.
