The story on this card

Fosse's 1969 Topps card (#244) is a Rookie Stars issue and his recognized rookie card, printed in the set's third series, and pairing him with fellow Cleveland Indians prospect George Woodson. On the field that season catcher was a crowded spot in Cleveland, with Fosse competing with Duke Sims and others for playing time behind the plate; a broken finger from a foul tip in June cost him much of the summer, and he appeared in just 37 games, batting .172 with 2 home runs and 9 RBI. It would be his last card before he broke out as an All-Star the following year. A two-time All-Star catcher and two-time Gold Glove winner who caught for back-to-back World Series champion Oakland teams in 1973-74, his career shaped by a famous home-plate collision.

Card #244 is a Rookie Stars subset issue shared with future All-Star catcher Ray Fosse, from the set's third print series. It is a recognized rookie card, and Woodson's small portrait catches him as a Cleveland Indians farmhand, reflecting his 1968 season with the Portland Beavers. By the time the card reached shelves, his contract had already moved to the Washington Senators' chain; he spent 1969 with the Buffalo Bisons and 1970 with the Denver Bears, both Senators affiliates, closing out his seven-year career without reaching the majors. A right-handed pitcher who spent his early seasons in the Cleveland Indians' system before finishing his career with the Washington Senators' Buffalo and Denver affiliates, striking out over 600 batters but never reaching the majors.
