About Jose Arcia

Selected by the expansion San Diego Padres in the 1968 expansion draft, Arcia became a regular for their inaugural 1969 season, playing 120 games and batting .215 while dividing his time between second base and shortstop. His 1969 Topps card, number 473, appeared in the set's fifth print series and exists in two collectible states distinguished by the color of his first name in the card's nameplate, printed in yellow or white.

Jose Raimundo Arcia was born August 22, 1943, in Havana, Cuba, and died July 30, 2016, in Miami, Florida. A right-handed infielder and outfielder listed at 6-foot-3, he reached the major leagues in 1968 and played three seasons, splitting his career between the Chicago Cubs and the San Diego Padres. His most extensive playing time came in 1969, his first season in San Diego, when he appeared in 120 games. Over his career he compiled a .215 batting average with 132 hits, one home run, 35 RBI, 78 runs and 17 stolen bases in 293 games. Defensively he moved around the infield and outfield, seeing time at second base, shortstop and the outfield across his three seasons. He was never selected to an All-Star team, won no major awards, never appeared in a postseason game, and is not a Hall of Famer.
