1969 Topps #437 Luis Alcaraz

About Luis Alcaraz
By 1969 Alcaraz had moved to the Kansas City Royals, purchased from the Dodgers the previous October, and appeared primarily at second base with a brief stint at third. This is card #437 in 1969 Topps, part of the fifth print series. It is recognized as Alcaraz's rookie card, pairing his early Dodgers seasoning with his first season for the expansion-era Royals club.
Angel Luis Alcaraz was a Puerto Rican infielder from Humacao who signed as a free agent with the Milwaukee Braves in January 1959, then was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers before the 1960 season. He spent several years working through the Dodgers minor league system before reaching the majors on September 13, 1967, debuting against the San Francisco Giants. Alcaraz played two seasons for Los Angeles as a light-hitting second and third baseman, then was purchased by the Kansas City Royals in October 1968. He spent his final two big league seasons with Kansas City before being traded to the Chicago White Sox for Bobby Knoop in March 1971. Across four major league seasons Alcaraz appeared in 115 games, batting .192 with 4 home runs and 29 RBI while manning the middle infield.
