The story on this card

Lee's first full year in the majors, 1970, brought 121 games for the Cardinals and a .227 average with 6 home runs. One of the homers, his first in the majors, came off Ferguson Jenkins. Topps gave him #96, a two-man Rookie Stars card in the first series, the rookie card for both Lee and pitcher Jerry Reuss, each printed with St. Louis. Leron Lee was a left-handed-hitting outfielder who hit .250 over eight seasons with the Cardinals, Padres, Indians and Dodgers, then played eleven years for Japan's Lotte Orions, winning the 1980 batting title and four Best Nine awards.

Reuss shares Rookie Stars card #96 with Leron Lee, and it is a rookie card for both Cardinals. Lee is the man who scored from third on Reuss's seventh-inning single in the pitcher's debut on September 27, 1969, when Reuss threw seven shutout innings in Montreal and won 2-1. The 20-year-old had come up from Tulsa after a 13-11 season. Left-hander Jerry Reuss won 220 games over 22 seasons from 1969 to 1990 with eight clubs. He started the 1975 All-Star Game for Pittsburgh, threw a no-hitter for the Dodgers on June 27, 1980, and won Game 5 of the 1981 World Series.
