The story on this card
Forsch's first full season in Houston produced an 8-8 record and a 2.53 ERA, with 23 of his 33 appearances as a starter. He struck out 131 in 188 1/3 innings. On September 24 in San Diego he went 13 innings before Harry Walker sent up a pinch hitter; the Astros won in 21. His #102 is a first-series Rookie Stars card shared with fellow Astro Larry Howard, the rookie card for both men. Right-handed pitcher for the Houston Astros (1970-80) and California Angels, a starter, then closer, then starter again. He no-hit the Braves on April 7, 1979, and his brother Bob also pitched no-hitters, a first for brothers.
Howard caught 22 of his 24 games for the 1971 Astros and hit .234 with 2 home runs and 14 RBI over 64 at-bats. Topps put him on #102, a Rookie Stars card shared with Ken Forsch, both printed with Houston. Larry Howard, an Atwater, California catcher signed by Houston as an undrafted free agent in 1963, played 133 games for the Astros and Braves from 1970 to 1973 and hit .307 in his 1970 debut season.
