About Norm Miller

Topps listed Miller at #18 in the first series of 1971, in an Astros uniform. In 1970 he hit .239 with 4 home runs and 29 RBI in 90 games for Houston. In 1971 his playing time shrank to 45 games and 74 at-bats, with 19 hits.

Norm Miller, born Norman Calvin Miller in Los Angeles, California, played outfield in the majors from 1965 to 1974 for the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves. Signed out of Van Nuys High School by the Los Angeles Angels as a second baseman, he was taken by Houston in the 1964 Rule 5 draft and converted to the outfield. He reached the majors in 1965 as one of the youngest players in the National League and spent most of his career with the Astros before finishing with Atlanta. Over 540 games Miller collected 325 hits. He scored the winning run in the Astros' famous 1-0, 24-inning marathon against the New York Mets in 1968. A back injury shortened his career; he retired at 28 and later worked in the Astros' front office and as a sports radio host. He was inducted into the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
