About Norm Miller

Norm Miller was a part-time player in 1972, with Bob Watson, Cesar Cedeno and Jimmy Wynn starting in left, center and right. He added 26 hits, 13 RBI and 18 runs. Card #466 is a fourth-series card printed with Houston.

Norm Miller, born Norman Calvin Miller in Los Angeles, California, played outfield in the majors from 1965 to 1974 for the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves. Signed out of Van Nuys High School by the Los Angeles Angels as a second baseman, he was taken by Houston in the 1964 Rule 5 draft and converted to the outfield. He reached the majors in 1965 as one of the youngest players in the National League and spent most of his career with the Astros before finishing with Atlanta. Over 540 games Miller collected 325 hits. He scored the winning run in the Astros' famous 1-0, 24-inning marathon against the New York Mets in 1968. A back injury shortened his career; he retired at 28 and later worked in the Astros' front office and as a sports radio host. He was inducted into the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
