The story on this card
The Texas Rangers on 1972 Topps #668 were the Washington Senators in 1971. They finished fifth in the American League East at 63-96, the franchise's eleventh and last year in Washington. Ted Williams managed, and Denny McLain, the former Cy Young Award winner, lost 22 games amid constant run-ins with his manager. Owner Bob Short had threatened to leave RFK Stadium, and on September 21, 1971, American League owners approved a move to Arlington, Texas, for 1972. The last game in Washington, on September 30, ended in a 9-0 forfeit to the Yankees when fans swarmed the field with the Senators ahead 7-5 and two outs in the ninth.
