About Rich Chiles

Chiles played all 8 of his 1973 Mets games between April 11 and 24, starting 7 in center field. In the second game of the April 22 doubleheader against Montreal, he went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI in a 13-3 win. His Mets card, 1973 Topps #617, belonged to the fifth-series high numbers.

Rich Chiles was a left-handed-hitting outfielder from Sacramento, California, raised in Winters, who played six major league seasons between 1971 and 1978. The Houston Astros took him in the second round of the 1968 draft out of Winters High School. He played for Houston in 1971 and 1972, went to the New York Mets that November in the trade that sent Tommie Agee to Houston, returned to the Astros briefly in 1976, and played two seasons with the Minnesota Twins in 1977 and 1978. He hit .254 with 6 home runs and 76 RBI in 284 games. He is a cousin of Hall of Famer George Kelly.
