1973 Topps #427 Rick Auerbach

About Rick Auerbach
Twelve games into the 1973 season the Brewers dealt Auerbach to the Dodgers for Tim Johnson, and he finished the year at Triple-A Albuquerque. The Brewers bought him back after the season and the Dodgers bought him back a month later. His 1973 Topps #427, from the fourth series, still carries the Brewers.
Rick Auerbach grew up in Woodland Hills, California, and went to Taft High School. The California Angels drafted him in the 13th round in 1968, but he played at Los Angeles Pierce College instead, and the expansion Seattle Pilots took him in the 1969 secondary draft. He reached Milwaukee in 1971 and played 11 major league seasons, with the Brewers, Dodgers, Reds and Mariners, finishing with a .220 average, 9 home runs and 86 RBIs. Most of his work was as a shortstop and utility infielder behind the regulars. He played in two National League Championship Series, in 1974 with the Dodgers and in 1979 with the Reds. His pro career ended after 1981 with Seattle, and he later worked as a farrier and, as of 2012, lived in Calabasas, California.
