1974 Topps #630 Tommie Agee

About Tommie Agee
Agee played his last big-league season in 1973, hitting .222 with 11 home runs in 109 games between the Houston Astros and the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals dealt him to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Pete Richert on December 5, 1973, and he was released in spring training. His 1974 Topps card, #630, lists him with the Cardinals; a separate #630T in the Traded set shows him as a Dodger.
Tommie Agee was a center fielder who broke in with Cleveland in 1962, moved to the Chicago White Sox in a three-team trade after the 1964 season, and was a key part of the 1969 Miracle Mets. He grew up in Mobile, Alabama with future Mets teammate Cleon Jones, then signed with Cleveland after one season at Grambling State. In Chicago he won the 1966 AL Rookie of the Year award and a Gold Glove after homering more than 20 times and stealing more than 40 bases as a rookie, then made a second All-Star team in 1967. Traded to New York after the 1967 season, he led the 1969 Mets in homers and RBIs, and homered twice in the NLCS sweep of Atlanta. In Game 3 of the World Series he hit a leadoff home run and made two catches that potentially saved five runs in a 5-0 Mets win over Baltimore. He closed his career with Houston and St. Louis and died in 2001.
