1976 Topps #367 Bruce Miller

About Bruce Miller
Miller spent most of 1976 with Phoenix, the Giants' Triple-A club, and was recalled in the summer for 12 games, hitting .160 with four hits in 25 at-bats. His last major-league game came on August 28. On a September 19 flight home from Cincinnati he punched the team statistician in an altercation, and the Giants outrighted his contract to Phoenix and then released him. Card #367 lists him with the Giants.
Bruce Miller was a right-handed utility infielder who played four seasons for the San Francisco Giants, from 1973 to 1976, mostly at third base and second base. A Fort Wayne, Indiana native, he led Indiana University in hits in 1968 and 1969 and earned all-Big Ten honors at shortstop in 1969. The White Sox drafted him in the 20th round in 1970, and he was traded to the Angels in August 1972, then to the Giants in April 1973 for Al Gallagher. He made the 1973 Pacific Coast League All-Star team with Phoenix and was called up to San Francisco in August. In 1975 he played 99 games and hit his only major-league home run, off Clay Kirby at Cincinnati on July 31. He finished with a .246 average and 51 RBI in 196 games. After baseball he taught and coached at North Side High School in Fort Wayne and was inducted into the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012.
