1976 Topps #511 Jamie Easterly

About Jamie Easterly
His card #511 with the Braves reflects his 1975 stay in Atlanta, a 2-9, 4.98 ERA year, with his first win coming in the Astrodome in front of family. The 1976 season belonged to Richmond, where Easterly worked under pitching instructor Johnny Sain, walked 88 in 137 innings and still posted a 2.96 ERA. A September call-up brought four starts and one win; the loss came when John Montefusco no-hit the Braves.
Jamie Easterly was a 5-foot-9 left-hander who pitched 13 major league seasons for the Atlanta Braves, Milwaukee Brewers and Cleveland Indians. The Braves took him in the second round of the 1971 draft out of Crockett, Texas, where he had struck out 231 in 111 innings as a high school senior. Injuries, among them a fungo-bat knee, arm trouble and elbow surgery, slowed him through the 1970s, and Atlanta used him in both rotation and bullpen without keeping him. Converted to full-time relief at Denver in 1980, he reached Milwaukee in 1981 and posted a 3.19 ERA over 62 innings in 44 games, with two postseason appearances against the Yankees. A June 1983 trade sent him to Cleveland with Gorman Thomas and Ernie Camacho, and he stayed through 1987, when rotator cuff surgery ended his career. He finished 23-33 with a 4.62 ERA in 321 games.
