1976 Topps #428 Jim Crawford

About Jim Crawford
The 1976 card, #428, still shows Crawford in an Astros uniform, though the December 1975 trade had already sent him to Detroit. In 1975 he made 44 appearances, two of them starts. He went 3-5 with a 3.63 ERA. He struck out 37 in 86 2/3 innings and saved four games.
Jim Crawford was a left-handed relief pitcher who worked 181 major league games between 1973 and 1978, all but 14 of them out of the bullpen. Born September 29, 1950, in Chicago, he pitched at Rincon High School in Tucson and was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 14th round in 1969 but did not sign. He went to Arizona State University instead, and the Houston Astros took him in the 14th round of the 1972 draft. He pitched for the Astros in 1973 and 1975. On December 6, 1975, Houston sent him with Milt May and Dave Roberts to the Detroit Tigers for Leon Roberts, Terry Humphrey, Gene Pentz and Mark Lemongello. He pitched for Detroit from 1976 through 1978, working 126 innings in 1977. His career record was 15-28 with a 4.40 ERA and 13 saves.
