About Jim Wynn

The Braves acquired Wynn, Jerry Royster, Tom Paciorek and Lee Lacy from the Dodgers on November 17, 1975, for Dusty Baker and Ed Goodson. His #395 in the 1976 Topps set shows him with Atlanta and carries the All-Star designation. In 1975 he hit .248 with 18 home runs and 58 RBI. He also drew 110 walks and homered in the second inning of the All-Star Game, a 6-3 National League win.

James Sherman "Jim" Wynn was nicknamed "Toy Cannon" for generating outsized power from a compact frame. He spent eleven of his fifteen major league seasons (1963-1977) with the Houston Colt .45's/Astros before two seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers and a final stretch split among the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers. Converted from shortstop to center field early in his career, he paired power with patience at the plate, leading the majors in walks in 1969. His signature power season came in 1967, when he hit a career-high 37 home runs and drove in 107, earning his first All-Star selection and an 11th-place MVP finish. A three-time All-Star (1967, 1974, 1975), he set a career high with 108 RBIs in 1974 with the Dodgers, helped Los Angeles to the National League pennant, and was named The Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year. The Astros retired his number 24 on June 25, 2005. Career totals: 291 home runs, 964 RBI, 1,105 runs and 225 stolen bases over 1,920 games.
