Pepe Mangual was a Puerto Rican outfielder from Ponce who played 319 games for the Montreal Expos and New York Mets from 1972 to 1977. His one full season came in 1975, when he appeared in 140 games for Montreal and hit .245 with a .340 on-base percentage. He stole 33 bases, sixth in the National League. On July 21, 1976 the Expos sent him and Jim Dwyer to the Mets for Wayne Garrett and Del Unser, a deal meant to help New York in the playoff hunt. He hit .186 for the Mets the rest of that season. His last major league game came on October 2, 1977. He finished with a .242 average, 16 home runs and 64 stolen bases. He then played in the minors until 1984, the last seven of those years in the California Angels organization, with 161 home runs and 303 steals in the minor league totals. His brother Angel Mangual also played in the majors, and his cousin was Coco Laboy.
