About Jack Kucek

Kucek made eight appearances for the White Sox in 1977, three of them starts, and finished 0-1 with a 3.63 ERA. He struck out 25 in 34 2/3 innings. In 1978 he worked 52 innings and completed three of his five starts. His 1977 Topps card, #623, shows him with the White Sox.

Jack Kucek was a right-handed pitcher who worked in 59 major league games between 1974 and 1980 for the Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays. A native of Warren, Ohio, he pitched at Newton Falls High School and Miami University, spent the summer of 1973 with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod League, and was a second-round White Sox pick in the 1974 draft. He climbed from Class A Appleton to Chicago that same summer and debuted in relief against the California Angels on August 8, 1974. Most of the next four years were spent in the White Sox farm system with occasional call-ups. Early in 1979 Chicago traded him to Philadelphia for Jim Morrison; he pitched most of that year at Triple-A Oklahoma City, was released in December, and signed with Toronto in January 1980. In 1980, his last season in the majors, he went 3-8 with a 6.75 ERA in 23 games for the Blue Jays. He finished with a 7-16 record, a 5.12 ERA and two saves, and struck out 121 batters in 205 2/3 innings. He then spent 1981 at Triple-A Syracuse and retired.
