1977 Topps #622 Jim Wohlford

About Jim Wohlford
The Royals sent Wohlford to Milwaukee on December 6, 1976, in the trade that brought Jim Colborn and Darrell Porter to Kansas City, with Jamie Quirk and later Bob McClure also going to the Brewers. Wohlford was the Brewers' starting left fielder in 1977 for a club that finished 67-95. He played the outfield in 125 games, hit .248 and stole 17 bases. His 1977 Topps card, #622, still carries the Royals name.
Jim Wohlford was a right-handed outfielder who spent 15 major-league seasons with the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants and Montreal Expos. A native of Visalia, California, he played most of his career as a reserve, typically in left field, and was often used as a defensive replacement because of his fielding. He debuted on September 1, 1972, and played his last game on October 5, 1986. He hit .260 over 1,220 games. His 793 hits included 21 home runs, and he stole 89 bases. In 1984 with the Expos he hit .300 with five home runs in 95 games. He became known for the line "Ninety percent of this game is half-mental." After baseball, Wohlford worked as a financial planner in Visalia.
