About Lynn McGlothen
Card #47 shows McGlothen with St. Louis after a 13-15, 3.91 ERA season. He had four shutouts and 10 complete games. On December 10, 1976 the Cardinals sent him to San Francisco for third baseman Ken Reitz. A shoulder problem kept him on the disabled list for much of his first Giants year, which ended 2-9 with a 5.62 ERA.
Lynn McGlothen was a right-handed pitcher from Monroe, Louisiana, who worked eleven seasons from 1972 to 1982 for the Red Sox, Cardinals, Giants, Cubs, White Sox and Yankees, finishing 86-93 with a 3.98 ERA. Boston drafted him in the third round in 1968 after he starred at Grambling High School, where he was also a three-time state tennis champion. His peak came with St. Louis, where in 1974 he went 16-12 with a 2.69 ERA, made the National League All-Star team and drew Cy Young and MVP consideration. He won 12 games for the Cubs in 1980, and elbow problems limited him to six starts the following year before he closed out his career with the Yankees in 1982. McGlothen died in a mobile-home fire in Dubach, Louisiana, in August 1984 at age 34.
