The story on this card
Topps used #433 in the Turn Back the Clock subset to recall August 1, 1972. Colbert had hurt his knee in a collision at home plate the night before and was listed as doubtful against the Braves in Atlanta, but he played the doubleheader and hit five home runs, matching the record Stan Musial set in 1954. His 13 RBIs broke the doubleheader record of 11, and his 22 total bases broke another Musial doubleheader record. San Diego won 9-0 and 11-7. Colbert, born and raised in St. Louis, had been in the stands for Musial's five-homer doubleheader on May 2, 1954. He finished 1972 with 38 home runs and 111 RBIs for the Padres.
Before becoming San Diego's first baseman, Nate Colbert led the Texas League with 28 home runs and 26 stolen bases for the Amarillo Sonics in 1967. He was the league's MVP.
