1977 Topps #199 Pepe Frias

About Pepe Frias
Montreal used Frias in 53 games in 1977. He hit .257 with 18 hits in 70 at-bats. He drove in five runs, playing second base in 16 games and shortstop in 14. His 1977 Topps card, #199, lists him with the Expos.
Pepe Frias was a Dominican infielder from San Pedro de Macoris who played nine major league seasons, 1973 through 1981, for the Montreal Expos, Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers. Hitting problems slowed his climb: the Giants released him in 1967, the Dodgers in 1968 and the Giants again in 1969, before the new Expos signed him for Double-A Jacksonville. He spent six seasons in Montreal as a backup shortstop and second baseman, then took over as Atlanta's starting shortstop in 1979, playing 140 games and hitting .259. His only major league home run came that year, off John Candelaria. He finished with a .240 average and 323 hits in 724 games, then played Triple-A ball through 1984.
