About Rick Miller

Injuries to Lynn gave Miller 105 games in 1976, and he hit .283, his best mark to that point in a Red Sox uniform. He played all three outfield positions, collected 76 hits and stole 11 bases. He also went 5-for-17 as a pinch-hitter that season, and card #566 shows him with Boston.

Rick Miller was a left-handed-hitting center fielder who played 15 seasons in the majors, 12 of them with the Boston Red Sox and three with the California Angels (1978-80). A Michigan State product, he won the Big Ten batting title at .429 in 1969 and was Boston's second pick in that year's draft. He made his debut on September 4, 1971, and became known for defense in Fenway Park's center field, winning a Gold Glove with the Angels in 1978. The Red Sox reacquired him with Carney Lansford and Mark Clear for Rick Burleson and Butch Hobson on December 10, 1980. He hit .269 with 1,046 hits and 28 home runs in 1,482 games. In 1983 he went 17-for-36 as a pinch-hitter. He is Carlton Fisk's brother-in-law, and later managed the Nashua Pride and the New Bedford Bay Sox.
