1977 Topps #185 Sixto Lezcano

About Sixto Lezcano
On April 10, Lezcano drove in both runs of a 2-1 win over the Yankees, tying the game with a fourth-inning homer and announcing, in Spanish, a ninth-inning shot that he then hit. He set an American League record with 10 outfield putouts in a nine-inning game on May 20. A Mike Torrez pitch broke his left hand on July 22; he still hit 21 home runs in 109 games. His card is #185.
Sixto Lezcano was a right fielder from Arecibo, Puerto Rico, who played 12 major league seasons (1974-1985) and hit .271 with 148 home runs. The Brewers signed him at 16 in October 1970. He singled in his first at-bat on September 10, 1974, and drove in the winning run in the 10th inning against Baltimore, then was Milwaukee's regular right fielder from 1975 through 1980, known for a strong throwing arm. He is the only player to hit a grand slam on Opening Day twice. After the 1980 season he went to St. Louis in the seven-player deal for Rollie Fingers, Pete Vuckovich and Ted Simmons; after 1981 he went to San Diego with Garry Templeton for Ozzie Smith. He finished with the Phillies, reaching the 1983 World Series, and the Pirates in 1985, and later played in Japan for Yokohama.
