About Bob Myrick

Myrick lost his first three decisions, the third after he surrendered a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth in Atlanta, and on May 13 he gave up a two-run homer to Enos Cabell. His last Mets appearance came on May 18, after which Torre sent him to Tidewater. His big-league line for 1978 was 0-3 with a 3.28 ERA in 24 2/3 innings. His Topps card that year is #676, listing him with the Mets.

Bob Myrick was a left-handed reliever who pitched 82 games for the New York Mets from 1976 to 1978 and finished 3-6 with a 3.48 ERA and two saves. A Hattiesburg, Mississippi, native and the great-nephew of Washington Senators second baseman Buddy Myer, he played at Mississippi State, was drafted by Baltimore in the 29th round in 1970 but chose college, and signed with the Mets as a 20th-round pick in 1974. He asked the organization to make him a full-time reliever while pitching for Jackson in the Texas League in 1975. Called up from Tidewater on May 28, 1976, he spent his first night in the majors next to Tom Seaver's locker. The Mets traded him with Mike Bruhert to Texas for Dock Ellis in June 1979, and he was released after a season at Tucson. He pitched for the Cubs' Wichita and Iowa clubs before leaving the game in 1981 for Economy Supply, the building supply company his grandfather founded in 1941. He died in Hattiesburg in 2012 at age 59.
