1978 Topps #505 Felix Millan

About Felix Millan
Felix Millan's final big-league game came on August 12, 1977, when a fight with Pirates catcher Ed Ott after a hard slide at second base left him with a shoulder injury. He had hit .248 with 2 home runs in 91 games for the Mets. His 1978 Topps #505 shows him with New York, but that season he played in Japan after the Yokohama Taiyo Whales bought his contract, and in 1979 he won the Central League batting title at .346.
Felix Millan was a Puerto Rican second baseman who spent 12 major league seasons with the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets, from his 1966 debut through 1977. A slap hitter who choked up far on the bat, he built a reputation as one of the toughest men in the league to strike out. He made three All-Star teams and won two Gold Gloves at second base, and he helped both the Braves and the Mets reach the postseason, including the Mets' 1973 National League pennant and World Series run. The nickname the Cat evolved from Kitten, which he earned for his all-around skills. He finished his career with 1,617 hits and a .279 batting average before playing three more seasons in Japan.
