1978 Topps #80 Ken Griffey

About Ken Griffey
In 1977 Griffey batted .318 and scored 117 runs in 154 games, and he was an All-Star again. He hit 12 home runs, drove in 57 and stole 17 bases. His #80 card, which followed that season, shows him with the Reds.
Ken Griffey Sr. was a left-handed outfielder who played 19 major league seasons, 1973 to 1991, and was a member of the Cincinnati Reds' Big Red Machine. Cincinnati drafted him in the 29th round in 1969 out of Donora, Pennsylvania, where football was his strongest sport. He debuted August 25, 1973, hit over .300 in five seasons for the Reds, and won two World Series with them in 1975 and 1976. He was a three-time All-Star and the MVP of the 1980 All-Star Game. Traded to the Yankees in November 1981, he later played for the Braves and returned to the Reds before finishing with the Seattle Mariners. There in 1990 he and his son Ken Griffey Jr. became the first father and son to be teammates in the majors. He retired after the 1991 season with a .296 average, 152 home runs and 859 RBI, and entered the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 2004.
