1978 Topps #649 Moose Haas

About Moose Haas
Haas's 1978 Topps rookie card, #649, shows him with Milwaukee and followed a 10-win 1977 in which he made 32 starts and struck out 113 batters. On April 12, 1978, he struck out 14 Yankees, including Reggie Jackson four times, in a complete-game victory.
Moose Haas pitched for Milwaukee for ten seasons before finishing his major-league career with Oakland in 1986 and 1987. The Brewers selected the Baltimore right-hander in the second round of the 1974 draft. His father, Bud, had given him the nickname Moose as a baby because of his broad shoulders. Haas won 100 games with a 4.01 ERA across 12 seasons. In 1980 he set personal highs with 16 victories, 252 1/3 innings and 146 strikeouts. He won Game 4 of the 1982 ALCS against California, keeping Milwaukee in a series it won the next day. In 1983 he went 13-3 with a 3.27 ERA and three shutouts.
