1978 Topps #432 Terry Bulling

About Terry Bulling
Bulling's only major league time before this card came in 1977, when he debuted on July 3 as the Twins brought him up from the minors to replace the injured Glenn Borgmann. He caught 10 of his 15 games and hit .156 with 5 RBI. His #432 card lists him with Minnesota and is a rookie card.
Terry "Bud" Bulling was a catcher who appeared in 138 major league games for the Minnesota Twins in 1977 and the Seattle Mariners from 1981 to 1983. Born in Lynwood, California, he was a 14th-round pick of the Twins in the 1974 draft. That year, playing for the Wisconsin Rapids Twins, a teammate accidentally shot him in the abdomen; the bullet lodged in his pelvic bone and he spent three days in intensive care. He recovered to make the Midwest League All-Star team in each of the next two seasons. The Mariners bought his contract in March 1979, and he returned to the majors in 1981, catching 62 games and hitting two home runs. In 1982 he served as Gaylord Perry's personal catcher and the team's backup, and he was behind the plate for Perry's 300th win. He played five games in 1983, the last on April 14, and finished with a .223 average, three home runs and 28 RBI. He died in Salem, Oregon, on March 8, 2014.
