1978 Topps #385 Tito Fuentes

About Tito Fuentes
Tito Fuentes played all 151 games at second base for Detroit in 1977 and hit a career-best .309 with 190 hits. He also scored 83 runs and drove in 51. The Tigers had Lou Whitaker coming, and Fuentes was not brought back; Montreal bought his contract, then released him before the season. His 1978 Topps card, #385, lists him with the Tigers. He appeared in 13 games for Oakland that year.
Rigoberto "Tito" Fuentes was a Cuban-born switch-hitting infielder who spent nine of his 13 major league seasons with the San Francisco Giants. He played for Cuba at the 1961 Amateur World Series alongside Bert Campaneris and signed with the Giants before the 1962 season. His major league debut came on August 18, 1965. Fuentes sometimes wore a headband outside his cap and approached the plate holding his bat by the barrel, tapping the handle on the plate before flipping and catching it. He joined the Giants' Spanish-language radio broadcasts in 1981, stayed through 1992 and returned as an analyst in 2004. The Hispanic Heritage Baseball Museum inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 2002.
