1978 Topps #384 Jack Clark

About Jack Clark
The 1978 season made Clark an All-Star. He hit safely in 26 straight games between June 30 and July 26, the longest Giants streak since 1900, and homered in five straight games during that stretch. He finished at .306 with 25 home runs and 98 RBI. He placed fifth in the MVP voting. His Giants card is #384.
Jack Clark was a right-handed outfielder and first baseman who hit 340 home runs and drove in 1,180 runs over 18 seasons, from 1975 to 1992. He spent ten years with the San Francisco Giants, then played for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, San Diego Padres and Boston Red Sox. The Giants signed him as a 13th-round pick in 1973, and he pitched five games in the Rookie league before a manager moved him to the field. He made four All-Star teams (1978, 1979, 1985, 1987) and won Silver Slugger awards at first base in 1985 and 1987. His three-run homer against the Dodgers in Game 6 of the 1985 NLCS clinched the pennant for St. Louis, and in 1987 he hit 35 home runs with 106 RBI and finished third in the MVP vote. In 1990 he feuded publicly with Padres teammate Tony Gwynn, calling him selfish for bunting with runners in scoring position. He finished with 1,826 hits and a .267 average.
