1979 Topps #130 Bob Watson

About Bob Watson
Playing first base for Houston in 1978, Watson hit .289 with 14 home runs and 79 RBI. His 1979 Topps card, #130, shows him with the Astros, who sent him to Boston on June 13, 1979, for Pete Ladd, cash and Bobby Sprowl. He hit .337 for the Red Sox over the rest of the season, with 13 home runs and 53 RBI.
Bob Watson broke in with the Houston Astros in September 1966 and spent 14 seasons in Houston as a first baseman and outfielder, batting .297 with 139 home runs for the club. Nicknamed "Bull," he was chosen for the NL All-Star team in 1973 and 1975 and hit for the cycle against the San Francisco Giants in 1977. In 1975 he was credited with scoring what was reported at the time as the one millionth run in major league history, beating Dave Concepcion to the plate by seconds. Traded to the Boston Red Sox in 1979, he later hit for the cycle again with Boston, becoming the first player to do it in both leagues. He later played for the New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves, reaching the World Series with the Yankees in 1981, and retired after the 1984 season with a .295 career average, 184 home runs and 989 RBI over 19 years.
