About Jim Clancy

An injury-plagued 1979 held Clancy to 12 games and a 2-7 record with a 5.51 ERA. Card #131 in the 1979 Topps set lists him with the Blue Jays. In 1980 he made 34 starts and threw 250 2/3 innings with 15 complete games.

Jim Clancy was a right-handed starter who spent twelve seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, from 1977 to 1988, before pitching for the Houston Astros and, briefly, the Atlanta Braves. A Chicago native who attended St. Rita of Cascia High School, he was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the fourth round in 1974 and went to Toronto as the sixth pick of the 1976 expansion draft. He was an American League All-Star in 1982, when he won 16 games and started a league-high 40, and he won 15 in 1983, the season Toronto had its first winning record. He pitched in the Blue Jays' first postseason in 1985 and appeared in three games of the 1991 World Series with Atlanta, winning Game 3 in twelve innings. He retired with 140 wins, 1,422 strikeouts and a 4.23 ERA, and died in 2025.
