About Balor Moore

On #238 he is a Toronto Blue Jay. He made 34 appearances in 1979, 16 of them starts, and went 5-7. He pitched 139 1/3 innings with a 4.84 ERA and 51 strikeouts. Five of those starts were complete games. In 1980 he went 1-1 in 31 appearances, three of them starts.

Balor Moore was a left-handed pitcher from Smithville, Texas, who worked in the majors from 1970 to 1980 for the Montreal Expos, California Angels and Toronto Blue Jays. He was the first player the Expos drafted, 22nd overall in 1969, and he debuted at 19 on May 21, 1970, facing Willie Stargell as his only batter. His best year was 1972, when he struck out 161 in 147 2/3 innings over 22 starts. Major elbow surgery after the 1974 season kept him from regaining that form. Sold to the Angels, he pitched for them in 1977, then spent his last three seasons with Toronto, where he recorded the only save of his career on April 27, 1980, against the Brewers. He finished 28-48 with a 4.52 ERA in the majors.
