1988-89 Fleer #29 James Donaldson

About James Donaldson
Born in Heacham, England, and raised in Sacramento, 7-foot-2 center James Donaldson went from Washington State to the Seattle SuperSonics as a fourth-round pick, 73rd overall, in 1979, detouring through Italy before his 1980 NBA debut. He manned the middle for Seattle (1980-83) and the Clippers (1983-85), leading the league in field-goal percentage at .637 in 1984-85, then found a home with the Dallas Mavericks from 1985 to 1991. In Dallas he became an All-Star in 1988, the same season the Mavs pushed the Lakers to seven games in the Western Conference Finals. Darryl Dawkins dubbed him the "American Tourister," cracking that the big man's head was as big as a suitcase. Donaldson retired in 1995 after stops with the Knicks and Jazz, totaling 8,203 points, 7,492 rebounds, and 1,267 blocks -- and famously never attempting a three in 957 games. This Fleer isn't his rookie card, but it catches him fresh off his All-Star peak.
